Description Dr. Bill Patzert of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will explain how satellite technology is used to map the Earth's oceans, providing a vital tool for oceanographers, meteorologists, and climatologists. Patzert will discuss how oceans affect our weather and climate and govern the El Niño/La Niña phenomena. Monitoring such conditions such as last winter's unexpected rains, he has improved long-term global weather and climate forecasts. Patzert with discuss impacts of El Niño, La Niña, and even longer-term climate trends in Southern California, the United States, and the world.
