SD Undersea Film Festival A Big Success
Date: 10/19/02  By SanDiegoDiving.com Editorial

This year's third annual San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition at Balboa Park's Natural History Museum was a sold-out success. Thirty two short films by amateur and professional film makers made up the schedule for the two day event, which was enjoyed by viewers from all over San Diego and beyond. The selections were chosen by judges, including Howard and Michelle Hall, who were in attendance at Friday night's show. Also in the house was local underwater film hero Chuck Nicklin.

...you owe it to yourself to make sure you don't miss it next year.

Steve Douglas, one of the event organizers had this to say about the show: "In my opinion, we are very pleased at how much the dive and non diving community have supported our efforts over the last three years. Just as important is how film makers from around the country have taken it upon themselves to support us as well by submitting films for consideration in the show. They do this knowing full well that this is not a contest, there are no prizes or rankings of films. This film festival is simply a showcase for the underwater film makers to reach out to the community. Since the organizing committee has nothing to do with picking what films will or will not be shown, it keeps everything clean and honest. It does surprise me sometimes how much the judges might agree or disagree with each other's individual choices but that is just the way it is."

"Once again, without the active support of the community in terms of their submissions and attendance at the show, there would be no film festival. It is my hope that it will continue for many years to come."

Whether you got the opportunity to see this year's exhibition, you owe it to yourself to make sure you don't miss it next year. We'll bring you the dates on SanDiegoDiving.com's event calendar.
